The Tamil Nadu Rural Transformation Project (TNRTP), formerly known as the Vazhndhu Kattuvom Project, is an ambitious initiative that aims to redefine rural development in Tamil Nadu. This World Bank-assisted project goes beyond just alleviating poverty. It focuses on building sustainable prosperity for rural communities by:
- Promoting Rural Enterprises: The project aids creation and growth of rural businesses, providing a pathway for economic independence and job creation for women entrepreneurs.
- Enhancing Financial Inclusion: The Vazhndhu Kattuvom Project works to ensure that rural communities have access to the financial resources they need to thrive. This includes microloans, savings schemes, and other financial products.
- Expanding Employment Opportunities: The project addresses the challenge of unemployment in rural areas by equipping individuals, especially women with skills and resources.
Operational across 120 blocks and 3994 village panchayats in 31 districts of Tamil Nadu, the Vazhndhu Kattuvom Project leverages the existing strengths of programs like TNEPRP, TNSRLM, and NRLP. This collaborative approach ensures a comprehensive and impactful strategy for rural transformation.”
